Hints and tips
Once Mexico freed itself from Spanish rule, government employees and officials received lands for grazing livestock. Don Juan Avila received 13,000 acres that became Rancho Niguel. In 1894, Lewis Moulton bought the ranch and 22,000 more acres. He and his partner initially used the land as a cattle ranch. During the 1960s, the land was divided into lots and became the Laguna Hills community. It was not until 1991 that the town was officially recognized as a city.
