Known widely by its official nickname 'The Biggest Little City in the World', Reno has something to offer almost everyone. Though it's no longer the primary gambling destination in the United States, a distinction it held until the 1950s, Reno still offers games, shows and other forms of entertainment at a number of casinos and resorts. Two of the largest and most popular operations are Atlantis Casino Resort and Peppermill Resort. The city is also home to the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame and the Wilbur D. May Center, which has a botanical garden, an arboretum and a museum. Other museums in Reno include the Nevada Historical Society and the Nevada Museum of Art.

Travelers to Reno might stay downtown on or near Virginia Street, but the presence of large resorts has moved some of the action to new locations. The area is served by the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RTAA), and many Reno hotels offer shuttle service to and from the airport for guests. Because it's a tourist destination, taxicabs and public transportation are also generally available.

Reno is a desert city, located near the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The climate is dry, and average temperatures range from a low of 35 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to around 75 degrees in the summer. Highs in the summer can reach over 100 degrees though, so summer travelers should plan for heat.
