Attractions and Tips
The New Orleans Saints of the National Football League play home games in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome here. The French Quarter is the old town part of the city and the French influence is plainly visible in many of the buildings, which are 100 to 300 years old. The city is known for its Mardi Gras festival, which triggers numerous parades and parties all over the city.
In the center of Jackson Square stands an equestrian statue depicting Andrew Jackson, who saved the city from British attack in the War of 1812. City Park covers more than 1,300 acres and contains numerous attractions like statues, water fountains and lush foliage. Preservation Hall is known throughout the country for its live jazz performances by local artists.
Temperatures in the winter months average 55 degrees, so even these months stay fairly warm, and summer days are nearly always in the 80's or above. The city averages about 63 inches of precipitation annually, with the summer months receiving most of this total and October being the driest.
