New to Professional Football
The Alliance of American Football was inspired originally by the XFL after a filmmaker watched an ESPN 30 for 30 series on the league. In December of 2017 after months of examining the failed league, Charlie Ebersol began to develop early plans for the AAF. The following spring it was announced that the league would be formed, but to ensure the highest level of play the league hired former players, coaches, and officials from the NFL to maintain business operations. By the summer the league had announced that they had signed over 100 players stemming from all backgrounds, including former NCAA Football players who never made it to the NFL. In the fall of 2018 the names of all eight teams were released. The Eastern Conference is made up of the Atlanta Legends, Memphis Express, Birmingham Iron and the Orlando Apollos. The Western Conference is made up of the Arizona Hotshots, the Salt Lake Stallions, San Antonio Commanders and the San Diego Fleet. Their inaugural ten-week season began on February 9, 2019, with a four-team playoff format expecting to end at the league’s championship game on April 27th at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
