Maui is served by three airports. Most visitors choose Kahului Airport (OGG), the largest of the three, as there are numerous car rentals available. Most roads on Maui circumnavigate the island as the center is a mountainous, dormant volcano.

Lahaina is a former whaling village and is still an active fishing community. Seafood restaurants abound here, and if you don't have time to try freshly cooked mahi-mahi in a restaurant, food carts and stands offer excellent fare. The peak vacation period is during the winter months, but the weather on the island is ideal all year long, so summer is also wonderful time to stay in Maui.
