Hotels in Lahaina
Lahaina is a quaint fishing town on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Located on the west side of the island, Lahaina is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts. Surfing is a big draw on Maui in general, and there are several surfing schools in Lahaina where you can learn the sport on gentler waves. Nearby attractions include the serpentine road to Hana, which lined with lush jungle and waterfalls, the volcanic crater of Mt. Haleakala and stunning oceanside golf courses.
Key facts
Maui is served by three airports. Most visitors choose Kahului Airport (OGG), the largest of the three, as there are numerous car rentals available. Kapalua Airport (JHM) and Hana Airport (HNM) on the other side of the island also accommodate small flights, mainly from Honolulu. Local roads connect Lahaina to the airports and other villages. Most roads on Maui circumnavigate the island as the center is a mountainous, dormant volcano.
Hints and tips
Lahaina is a former whaling village and is still an active fishing community. Seafood restaurants abound here, and if you don't have time to try freshly cooked mahi-mahi in a restaurant, food carts and stands offer excellent fare. The peak vacation period is during the winter months, but the weather on the island is ideal all year long, so summer is also wonderful time to stay in Maui.
