The Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is one of the busiest airports in the country. Not only does it connect with many other U.S. airports, but is also one of the most popular entry points for foreign visitors. You can expect a lot of traffic when you fly in from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW), but relaxation, fun and exploration await you beyond the airport.
IAH is just over 20 miles north of Houston, and a little over 50 miles south of the Sam Houston National Forest. If you want to explore spectacular water views, Galveston and Trinity Bay are both less than a two hour drive from the airport.

If you take advantage of rental car services at IAH, you can take I-69 South to reach most of Houston’s attractions. I-610 makes a loop around the center of the city, so it will lead you to many hotels, restaurants and shopping centers.
While exploring the city, spend some time at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Museum of Fine Arts and the Holocaust Museum. If you need to keep the kids occupied the Houston Zoo and the Children's Museum are always worth the visit.

A direct flight from DTW to IAH will take approximately three hours. If your flight includes stops, the trip may take up to five hours. After claiming your baggage, look for signs leading to the Consolidated Rental Car Facility.
