San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is the second busiest airport in California, following only Los Angeles International. The airport is accessible via Highway 101, which runs along the coast, and Interstate Route 280.
Typical flight times are 18 to 20 hours to Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV), and once in Tel Aviv, it will be easy to reach your hotel via Highways 1, 6 and 40.
Attractions and Tips
Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel after Jerusalem and is home to most of the country’s foreign embassies. Old Jaffa is the point where the biblical figure Jonah embarked on the journey during which a whale swallowed him and is now home to a huge Flea Market.
Dizengoff Centre has a very colorful food market every Thursday and Friday and is home to an iconic shopping center. Tel Aviv’s Art Gallery District has more than 20 galleries all within walking distance of each other. Tel Aviv is also home to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as well as three major football clubs that consistently rank among league leaders.
Tel Aviv is situated on the Mediterranean Sea, so swimming is a big attraction here. Be careful to swim only in the areas with lifeguards though, because there can be powerful currents along the shoreline that carry less experienced swimmers out to sea. At the beginning of summer, keep a lookout for seasonal jellyfish invasions.
