Attractions and Tips
If you travel to Barranquilla during the final four days before Lent, be sure to attend the carnival, a celebration full of dancers, revelers, parades and live music. Barranquilla's carnival is the second largest in the world, even larger than Mardi Gras in New Orleans. An international arts festival also occurs at the end of January.
Year-round, you can enjoy the beaches at Puerto Colombia, the Museum of the Caribbean and the Romantic Museum, which has artifacts from Simon Bolivar and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Stick close to the neighborhood of El Prado if enjoying the nightlife, and play it safe and hail a taxi rather than walking back to your hotel after a long night of partying. Temperatures hover around 90 degrees all year round, so pack accordingly.
