Attractions and Tips
Fort Lauderdale Beach was formerly a prime destination for spring break enthusiasts, but is now somewhat quieter, although still at the hub of tourist activity. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a 180-acre park that includes a museum, hiking trails, picnic areas, freshwater lagoons, cycling paths and canoe rental shops. Stranahan House was built in 1901 as a home for businessman Frank Stranahan, from which he managed his lucrative ferry business, and it is now a tourist attraction that has fine Victorian architecture and furnishings. The Antique Car Museum features vehicles manufactured by the Packard Motor Company, including vehicles from pre-World War II, and a room dedicated to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. At the Everglades Holiday Park, visitors can glide over and survey the Everglades in an airboat.
Temperatures are warm all year round at Fort Lauderdale, but May through October months are the hottest, with temperatures routinely reaching above 90 degrees. During that same timeframe, much of the area's annual precipitation usually falls with frequent heavy downpours possible.
