Take I-45 to Houston Hobby (HOU). Upon arrival, park in Terminal Parking or opt for the valet option if you want to save parking struggles and don't mind paying a bit more to do so. You'll be on the ground in no time, as flight times are usually just over 90 minutes. When you land at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Int (ATL), take the MARTA to Atlanta city center to begin your escape.
Attractions and tips
If you're a history buff, explore Atlanta's part at the Atlanta History center. While still looking back, stop at the Martin Luther King, Jr National Historic Site. For a relaxing day at the ballpark, head to Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves, and take in a game. Spend time exploring the natural wonders of Atlanta with a visit to Stone Mountain. The highlight of this 3,200-acre park is a quartz mountain etched with the images of Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis. Next, head to Atlanta Botanical Gardens, a 30-acre site that is home to an assortment of plants, including some rare and tropical ones.
For immersion in downtown Atlanta and easy access to restaurants and bars, select a hotel in Midtown. For a more-off-the-beaten-path option, choose Virginia-Highlands. It is warm in Atlanta 12 months a year. Summers can become quite hot, so if you aren't a fan of the heat, don't visit June through September.
