Striving Towards the Championship Title
Originally dubbed the Dallas Burn, the team won its debut game in 1996 against the San Jose Clash. Their first season was a strong start, with appearances in both the MLS Cup playoffs and the U.S. Open Cup. They established themselves the following year by dethroning D.C. United to claim the U.S. Open Cup. In 2005 the owners decided to reinvigorate the club with some branding changes. The team was christened FC Dallas and given a new home at what is now called Toyota Stadium. In the following years, FC Dallas climbed up the ranks in their conference. It seemed like the community's hopes would finally be fulfilled in 2010 when FC Dallas earned a spot in the MLS Cup final for the first time. However, the team suffered disgrace in overtime when a player scored an own goal and Colorado Rapids claimed the championship. But FC Dallas has not slinked away in shame – 2016 was a shining year, with the team winning both the Supporters' Shield and the U.S. Open Cup.
