Early Life and Career
Sara Bareilles was born on December 7, 1979 in Eureka California. As a child and throughout her years in high school Bareilles was very active in musical theater. After graduating from high school Bareilles attended the University of California, Los Angeles where she was a member of the a cappella group Awaken a Cappella. Upon leaving college in 2002 she began to perform at bars in her local area, eventually gaining enough fame to begin playing at larger venues. In 2004 she released her first studio album Careful Confessions and by 2005 she was signed to her first record deal with Epic Records. From 2004 to 2007 Bareilles toured as the opening act for some of the biggest names in the industry including Maroon 5 and James Blunt.
Love Song
Sara Bareilles really skyrocketed to fame in 2007 when the lead single “Love Song” from her album Little Voice became the iTunes free download of the week. The album was an instant success, shooting to the top of the iTunes charts for the most downloaded album within a week. Both the album and the single broke records around the world and landed at the top of the charts. In the fall of 2008 Bareilles headlined her first tour supporting the album.
In 2009 Sara began collaborating with music legends Weezer and Pharrell Williams to produce her new album Kaleidoscope Heart. The album was released the following year and debuted in the number one spot on the charts in the United States. Bareilles toured throughout the United States solo for the later part of 2010 and with long time friends Maroon 5 in early 2011.
Brave
In 2013 Sara teased via social media that she would be releasing another album and would be embarking on a nationwide tour to support the album. The Blessed Unrest was released in July of that year with the leading single “Brave” released in April. “Brave” would go on to become a world-wide phenomenon, with people using it as their anthem to get through hard times. The following year she would perform the single alongside Carole King at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards and with Elton John at the 2014 Breast Cancer Research Foundations annual event.
Involvement in Theater
Growing up Sara Bareilles was always heavily involved in musical theater, starring in lead roles throughout high school and college. As an adult Sara once again got involved, this time behind the scenes writing the score for the Broadway adaptation of the 2007 film Waitress. Bareilles has also taken the stage several times as an adult. In 2016 she performed Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid when it played at the Hollywood Bowl, and in 2017 she also took the stage as Jenna Hunterson for a leg of performances for Waitress. Perhaps her most notable role though came in 2018 when she starred alongside John Legend as Mary Magdalene in the NBC showing of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
Amidst the Chaos Tour
Sara Bareilles released her sixth album in the beginning of 2019, debuting at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. Amidst the Chaos was released in April and the leading single “Armor” was released in October of 2018. In support of her new album Sara announced that she would be going on an American tour beginning in October. The tour kicked off in Detroit and weaved its way throughout the United States before wrapping up in November in Atlanta. It made stops in New York, Nashville, and Los Angeles.
