Climbing up the Ranks

The University at Buffalo first put a basketball team on the court in 1915, operating as an independent for much of its early history. The Bulls made half a dozen appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament in the 1950s and 60s, but it's in recent years that the team has made significant progress. In 1998 the Bulls became part of the Mid-American Conference. They snagged their first conference regular season championship in 2009. In 2015 they were also crowned the conference tournament champions for the first time. That season they also made their NCAA Tournament debut, though they fell to #5 West Virginia by a narrow margin. Undeterred, Buffalo has made repeat appearances in the tournament. In 2018 they upset #4 Arizona in a stunning 89-68 victory to advance to the second round. The Bulls ended up losing in their next game against Kentucky, but their spirit of determination makes the future look bright.
