The Invincibles
Based out of Islington, London, Arsenal F.C. is one of the top soccer teams to step on the field from England. During their time playing within the Premier League, the team has won well over fifty titles. Arsenal F.C. got its start in 1886 after a group of men came together forming a club soccer team in South East London. Originally the team was known as Royal Arsenal F.C., after their original location in the heart of the Royal Arsenal Complex. After several years of playing as a club and several name changes, they became known as just simply Arsenal F.C. in 1915 after they had joined on in the newly founded Football League. Under powerful coaching and the backing of a strong fan base, the Arsenal won their first national trophy in 1930. For the next decade the team dominated the soccer landscape, winning several league and national titles. When war broke out in Europe, play was brought to a screeching halt. The first game played in the post war era was in the 1947-1948 season, and it was not long after that the Arsenal got back on their feet dominating. The early years of the 1950’s saw success, but as post war struggle began setting in the team began to struggle both on the field and in the front office financially. For the next eighteen years the club would struggle and fail to bring home any titles. In 1987, after bringing back George Graham as manager, the Arsenal F.C. won their first league cup in their history. Throughout the latter half of the 1980s and early 1990s, the club saw a lot of success, bringing home the bulk of their national and international titles. After a brief period of struggle in the mid-90s, the team came back together becoming an unstoppable force in the early 2000’s. They even went a whole season without losing a single match, earning them the nickname “The Invincibles”. For a period, the Arsenal F.C. was the top team in soccer, winning several titles along the way. After an overhaul of their coaching staff in 2018, fans and players alike are ready to see what the 2019 season has in store for this young team.
International Champions Cup 2019
As part of their preseason warm up, the Arsenal along with several other European teams stepped onto American soil for some friendly competition. As a way for the coaching staff to see who is fit to play in starting roles on the team, as well as a chance for the team to get some practice in before the real season starts, the International Champions Cup allows for American fans to see their favorite international players up close and personal. Arsenal F.C. played in the United States twice in the summer of 2019, against both F.C. Bayern at Dignity Health Sports Park and Real Madrid at FedEx Field. Cheap tickets sold fast, as eager fans snatched them up within moments of them going on sale.
