December 12, 1982 – The two teams played through a massive snowstorm and were failing to make any ground. With the game tied at 0-0, Ron Meyer, the Patriots coach, called for a snow plower to clear a patch for John Smith to kick a field goal. This gave the Patriots an unfair advantage, which they utilized to win the game. Dolphins coach Don Shula was furious but despite his protests, the goal was upheld by Commissioner Pete Rozelle.
The Wildcat
September 21, 2008 – Desperate to turn their fortunes around, the Dolphins introduced a new offensive strategy against the Patriots known as the Wildcat. This completely threw the Patriots off their game and the Dolphins would end up winning 38-13. Not only did this win give the Dolphins the division crown and a ticket to the playoffs, it also ended the Patriots’ 19-game regular-season winning streak.
