Nice hotel, however the receptionist level of customer service weren’t great. Talked at you at check in, with no smiles, when entering or leaving the building they don’t look up to avoid welcoming you. Our room was only made up for 2 not 3 so we had to request an extra bed, however the rest of the amenities in the room only catered for 2 - ie 2 coffee cups. When leaving the access code provided didn’t work so we had to go back and park car, walk back to the hotel and get a new code and walk back in the ice. I just felt the staff could make an extra effort

Lovely room, great breakfast but there is a background noise that you don’t hear during the day that is so loud during the night, couldn’t work out where it was coming from. Putting in ear phones didn’t drown it out until I put some music on.

First stay here of many to follow
First time stay at a Novotel. If they are all as good as this one then I will be using this brand much more frequently. The staff were polite friendly and helpful, the foyer is large and well presented. I stay away at least 30 times a year and there are some things I always look for in a hotel obviously cleanliness is at the top, a decent size room with usb connection ports is good. The TV in this room was a good size, but I often prefer to use a tablet. Wifi was certainly quick enough for my small needs. I was not gaming. The bed linen was decent and the bed was an excellent foam mattress, the pillows were only OK. Another thing I think all hotels should fit are soft close toilet seats as there is nothing more annoying than one slamming down next door at stupid o' clock in the morning. Soft close seats are fitted here. As for the hotels location to York centre for us it was perfect. A 15 minute stroll along the river into town. Parking was perfect too and £16 for 24 hours in York is reasonable. We will be using this hotel again.

We were celebrating my Husband’s 60th Birthday, and were given the lovely surprise of an upgrade plus a welcome treat in our room. It’s good to see the Hotel is continually improving the look of the Hotel by upgrading the flooring and extra new touches at breakfast. Big shout out to Rekah a staff member who is so welcoming.

We arrived before the designated check-in time and requested the receptionist for an early check-in. She mentioned that there were no rooms ready, but still requested my information, so I provided my complete name. She requested my name once more, mentioning that it was not in the system. Next, I presented her with the confirmation and receipt I had received via email and on my Expedia account. After glancing at my confirmation email/receipt, she continues to claim that my name wasn't in the system despite me spelling it out for her. When I inquired about the name on the system, she instantly changed her tone and said that it was in the system after all. Messing around like that completely changed my perception of the hotel as what could have been a smooth experience with excellent customer service ended up leaving a bad impression. A 4 star hotel must have excellent customer service and should not have unfriendly receptionists representing the hotel. Another criticism is that they should offer at least two bottles of water in the room since it is a 4-star establishment and there was a lack of amenities in the bathroom. Therefore, considering the price paid, it would be advisable to seek accommodation elsewhere with better services as this hotel resembles more of a 3-star rating.
