Wonderful

We don't usually stay at 'boutique' hotels but thought we'd try this place. As others have said the rooms are small but it was fine. Bed was very comfortable. The only problem we had was street noise as our room was directly over the front entrance (rm 210) You can hear other guests walking in the room above and people slamming their doors late at night for some reason. I found it quite overpriced and probably wouldn't stay here again based on that. Staff was great, the bar has a solid selection of beers and it's a cool place to hang out at.
This is a wonderful, unique, and well designed property that has charm and character. The rooms were nicely appointed, clean, and an eye for design details. We chose an apartment suite, so it is more like a motel in the sense that the setup was like a 3-story small apartment building.
The staff was super friendly and helpful. The lobby closes up at 11PM so plan accordingly. Parking is very limited and was full capacity on our visit. But once settled, there are so many walkable places that you won't necessarily need a car, The Hollander restaurant has great service and food with a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The coffees and desserts were top-notch too. Recommended.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The price is good for the location, the area is really expensive but I would most likely not choose to stay here again.
Pros: great location for the price. Bathroom is clean, friendly staff and there’s always water at the front desk to pick up.
Cons: need to walk to the sister hotel to get to all amenities, including pool, gym, restaurant etc.
Our room was extremely bad lit. There were no light in the closet/ mirror area, we needed to use our phone lash light to see and we took this trip because of a weeding.
It was challenging to get ready.
There’s no ventilation or central air in the room, only one vent in the bathroom that was very loud but barely worked. 1 shower and the whole room and bed felt humid and wet for the whole night even with it on.
All windows were seal shut. There was a small ac unit and a ceiling fan but it was December so we felt cold tuning them on but there’s no air flow otherwise.
There’s no sound proofing, we could hear people walking up and downstairs, and on the street. My parent is a light sleeper and that bothered him even with ear plugs in.
Overall our stay was pleasant. The parking situation however was frustrating. One night we had to park across the street in a business lot. Next night we drove around the block a few times and doubled park in the lot until someone pulled out.
A nice hotel for a one night stay. Cozy room, walking distance to many places. Only complaint there’s no fridge or microwave. Otherwise for a place to sleep it’s nice
Chic place downtown that is really part of a multi-building complex taking up most of the block, which is good for the parking. The lobby was decorated very nicely and the staff was very nice. It's a smaller place but as it's a "sister" to the next door larger Hollander, can get anything needed. The rooms and hallways are dated as it's an older building. They've done a good job with the decor, but still feels like an older place. In all if good with an older feel, this is a real convenient place to stay.
We came for a concert at Jannus so we wanted something within walking distance. The staff was lovely right from the start. Bottles of water and citrus infused waiting there for the taking. The room is the necessities, but not super spacious. They did what they could with the space but it was perfect for what we needed. It is a dual property with the Hollander so if Avalon doesn’t have it, Hollander does. The best was really comfy! There was coffee ready at check out in the morning. There’s a shuttle to take you where you need too!
Only complaints: there is parking and we didn’t have an issue but if you were to come back late, spots may not be in plenty. The room smelled highly of cleaner so it was a little headache inducing but the room was cleaned so we won’t complain, we just opened the window.
My first time at the Avalon. The room was small but it was great. I love the area since it is so convenient to anything downtown. Next door at the sister hotel is a famtastic restaurant aand a coffe shop. Definitely recommend and will always stay here when possible.
This is a place for just laying your head down overnight,, not for relaxing in your room all day, you will hear people above you walking extremly hard and the bathrooms are tiny. You have to remeber this is an old building
