Great property, the food was great, staff was great. It is a family friendly resort , however the loud music at night definitely does not allow the little ones to sleep, so a lot of crying kids.

Restaurant was slow, buffet for breakfast was out of everything and the grill by the pool had one person working and couldn’t keep caught up with the demand, hardly any staff by pool and had to go get drinks myself all the way at the other end. All the pools were hot like a sauna. My shower leaked. Room service didn’t give us half our order and you couldn’t get ice anywhere…

I've been to Cancun 3 times and this was my first time at a Riu property. We booked two rooms next to each other. The hotel room is outdated and there was mold in the bathroom shower curtains and ceilings. The couch and pillows are stained. When notifying hotel staff of this, we were told that is what you paid for. This is very unacceptable as a guest paying any amount of money does not expect mold and unsanitary rooms. We had to ask several times for either moving rooms or have the curtains replaced and room re-cleaned. The variety of food in room service is disappointing and sub par. There were only sandwiches and nachos on the menu and limited times. Other hotels in the area have full menus 24 hours with a lot more variety and delicious options. Taxis are a ripoff, $40 for 5 min ride! I took the bus instead for $1. The steak restaurant was decent. The buffet had a lot of variety, but a lot of the food was cold. I was seated at breakfast with a friend and after I got my food and returned to the table, I was rudely told several times that it was not my table and to move. It was not until my friend also returned to the table that the servers realized their mistake because they recognized my friend, the black lady. We booked Riu Peninsula because my sister booked Riu Las Americas down the road and their hotel was fully booked. We were not able to eat at their resort, which defeats the purpose of sister properties. I will not return to Riu.

I was in 2020 and now in 2024, the property needs more attention. I have to ask for a change of room because the air was terrible and one of the sink clogged, in the other room the air was a little better. Those are opportunities of improvement for that beautiful building.

I was highly impressed by Rui’s customer service and cleanliness. All the staff were extremely friendly, they clean the ENTIRE facility, as well as they have 24 hour room service. The start to finish of our trip was very much bad at this hotel, the room was filthy and you need to call more then 5 times to get a towel or even shampoo, the staff was completely rude throughout the entire stay if I could give a minus 5 starts I would .
