Take I-77 or I-85 to get to Charlotte Douglas (CLT). Upon arrival, pick a spot in one of the onsite lots. You'll barely have time for an in-air drink, as flights usually last for just over 90 minutes. Once you land at Fort Lauderdale International (FLL), grab a rental car so you can more easily travel in and around the Fort Lauderdale area.

Upon arrival, head to the Sawgrass Recreation Park to see the Florida Everglades up close and personal. At this swampy park, you can take an airboat ride, and view the everglades from the water. For a Fort Lauderdale beach experience, head to Fort Lauderdale Beach. The beach is sandy and the waters warm along this coast, which sees fewer tourists than many other Florida beaches so it will likely be less packed. As you end your Fort Lauderdale escape, stop at the Bonnet House. This plantation house, built in 1895, is full of artwork and surrounded by a tour-worthy garden.

For easy access to shops and restaurants, seek a hotel in downtown Fort Lauderdale. If you like an older neighborhood with an uncommon and artsy feel, try Sailboat Bend. You can enjoy temperate weather in Fort Lauderdale, regardless of when you go. For the most beautiful weather, visit in the spring; if you want bake under the Florida sun, visit June through September when it's the hottest.
