Attractions and Tips
Yangon, a commercial center of Burma, has many cultural sites, including the Shwedagon Pagoda, the Taukkyan War Cemetery and the Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue, the last Jewish temple in the city. You can see the city life on the Yangon Circular Train, which is a point of interest in itself. The Bogyoke Aung San Market is a great place for shopping, and check out Kandawgyi Park and Inya Lake for some outdoor scenery or take in a Myanmar puppet show in at Htwe Oo Myanmar theater. Bago, with its Shwemawdaw Paya pagoda and Kanbawzathadi Golden Palace, is about 80 miles north of Yangon.
Weather in Yangon varies by season, with hot summers, moderate winters and a rainy spring and early fall. Pack light, cotton-based clothes if you're planning to visit during the summer, as temperatures may exceed 90 degrees.
