Mexico City International Airport (MEX) can be reached via Highways 85, 142 and 150D. Flights usually last for five or six hours to Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) and upon arrival in Peru, you will be about six miles from the capital city of Lima. LIM is serviced by Highways 1N and 100, both nearby.
Attractions and Tips
Constructed in the 17th century, the San Francisco Monastery and Church have survived several earthquakes, suffering severe damage from a 1970 quake. The Gold Museum has thousands of valuable art pieces made of gold, silver and copper, many of which were made by the Inca and Nazca Indians.
The Church of Las Nazarenas is an ancient church built in an area once inhabited only by slaves, and when one wall painting of Christ was the only wall to survive an earthquake, it was regarded as a miracle and a town grew up around it. Lima Zoo contains a myriad of animals and birds native to the region.
Lima is cooled by Pacific breezes, so it rarely gets hot. It is warmest January through March, when it reaches the high-70s, with all other months averaging between 64 and 74 degrees. Lima gets no rainfall to speak of, so rain gear is unnecessary here.
