About Kauffman Stadium
The Kansas City Royals play in the American League of the Major League Baseball association, and they have their home in Kauffman Stadium. Kauffman Stadium is a part of the Truman Sports Complex, along with the home of the Kansas City Chiefs, who play at Arrowhead Stadium as part of the National Football League. Kauffman Stadium is named after Ewing Kaufman, who is the founder and the first owner of the Kansas City Royals. When the stadium opened its doors in 1973, it was named Royals Stadium. 20 years later, the name was changed to reflect its first owner. The stadium seats close to 38,000 people, but it does sell standing room only (SRO) tickets from time to time.
A Brief History Of Kauffman Stadium
Even though the stadium is one of the older baseball stadiums in the country, it is still a popular location to see a game. When the stadium was built, multi-sport stadiums were common. Therefore, the stadium was built using a cookie-cutter design. For example, it is often compared to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, having a modern design. Furthermore, it is one of the few stadiums in all of baseball that does not have a corporate sponsor on its nameplate. The stadium has hosted plenty of playoff games and All-Star games throughout the year. In 2009, the stadium underwent a significant renovation. This includes improvements to fan amenities. A new Hall of Fame area for the Kansas City Royals was also added to the stadium during the renovation process.
