About Columbus Crew SC
One of the ten Major League Soccer clubs that have been a part of the league since its creation in 1993, Ohio's resident team Columbus Crew Soccer Club has seen a successful run in the MLS and a string of great players and coaches that speak to a bright and exciting future for the club.
Columbus Crew SC History
The team has a loyal and fierce fan base, leading their 2014 season at 20,000-seat Mapfre Stadium in Columbus Ohio to feature both the greatest cumulative attendance and most sold-out games for a soccer club season in Major League Soccer history.
In its twenty short years as a club, Crew SC already has an impressive trophy case— three Supporters' Shield trophies, an MLS cup trophy in 2008, a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and three quarterfinals appearances in the international CONCACAF Champions League.
The Crew and Toronto FC have been framed as rivals by the MLS, with the Trillium Cup awarded to the winner of the series. The Lamar Hunt Pioneer Cup is played between FC Dallas and Columbus Crew, named after the owner of both teams prior to his death.
In the summer of 1994, the MLS announced to the delight of Ohioans that Columbus would be home to the country's first officially recognized North American professional soccer association. Since then the club has become just as beloved as other longer-established franchises, attracting huge crowds and talented players to the squad.
