Throughout the years, the program at the University of Central Arkansas has risen steadily through the ranks of college sports teams. The Bears debuted in the NAIA Tournament in 1937, claiming fourth place after a narrow defeat by Southwestern. While they would make repeated appearances in the tournament, it wasn't until the 1990s that they again inched that close to the championship title. They played back-to-back NAIA National Championship Games in 1991 and 1992, suffering tough losses to Oklahoma City both times. The Bears moved to NCAA Division II, where they advanced in the 2005 Division II Tournament. Now part of Division I, the Bears are eager to carve out their space in the Southland Conference.
