About The Sleeping Beauty - Ballet
Sleeping Beauty's story has been told thousands of times throughout the centuries, but the elegance of the ballet gives this fairytale a new shimmer of magic. Get caught up in the enchantment by picking up your cheap The Sleeping Beauty ballet tickets today!
Composing a classic
When Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky was invited to write the score for a new production at the Imperial Ballet, he readily agreed. He was inspired by the Brothers Grimm's retelling of the French fairytale of The Sleeping Beauty. The story is timeless – a beautiful princess who is cursed by a wicked fairy slumbers for a hundred years, until a brave prince dares to defy the curse. He must storm the sleeping castle and fight the evil fairy, but the enchantment is broken and a happy ending is sealed with a kiss. The Sleeping Beauty premiered in Saint Petersburg at the celebrated Mariinsky Theatre in 1890, moving to Moscow's illustrious Bolshoi Theatre nine years later. Tragically, Tchaikovsky died shortly after the Mariinsky premiere and he never knew that by 1903 The Sleeping Beauty was the theatre's second most performed ballet. Once the ballet was performed in London, it became an international sensation.
The Sleeping Beauty is now a classic, with ballet companies all over the world spinning a mesmerizing world for audiences. Dive into the magic yourself by getting your cheap The Sleeping Beauty ballet tickets today!
