Defining a genre – and a generation of listeners
The Shins got started in 1996 in Albuquerque, when James Mercer needed to change things up from his band at the time, Flake Music. Mercer toiled away at crafting a unique sound for his new band, the Shins, and in 1998 they released the EP Nature Bears a Vacuum. After touring with Modest Mouse, the band got their first break, a deal with Sub Pop Records. They debuted with Oh, Inverted World, a critical success that established their dreamy but slightly melancholic sound as the new voice of indie rock. After their single "New Slang" was featured on the breakout indie film Garden State, the Shins were poised for mainstream success. Their following album, Wincing the Night Away, soared to the top of the Billboard charts and earned a Grammy nomination. But Mercer found himself again in need of a stylistic shakeup. His collaboration with Brian Burton on Broken Bells infused Mercer with new inspiration, and in 2012 the Shins – with a new lineup – released Port of Morrow.
With Heartworms out in 2017, the Shins are taking fans on a whole new ride. Pick up your cheap the Shins tickets here for an unforgettable night rocking out with these indie kings!
