Bringing Back the Banjo

Born out of broken hearts and the need for creative stimulus, the band came together with near clandestine ease. They first worked on the 2006 album, How To Grow a Woman from the Ground, a self-produced project that was recorded in two days. Though a small endeavor, the album gained significant buzz among music publications. Two years later they had dubbed themselves The Punch Brothers and were releasing their Nonesuch records debut, Punch. As this Brooklyn band continued to release more music, their rise in popularity helped magnify the Americana and modern jazz movements. The Punch Brothers albums regularly top the US Bluegrass Albums chart. In 2012 they recorded "Dark Days" for the first Hunger Games movie, and in 2016 their single "Julep" was nominated for a Grammy Award.
