An Irish Family Affair

Growing up in Northern Ireland, brothers George and Will Millar would take part in impromptu family 'concerts' in their kitchen. After they moved to Canada, George bonded with Jimmy Ferguson, a fellow Irishman. The brothers, their cousin Joe, and Ferguson began performing as The Irish Rovers, naming themselves after a line in a traditional Irish song. They worked the local scenes in Canada before going on to make a name for themselves in the States. In 1966 they released their debut album, The First of the Irish Rovers, a hit that firmly established them in the pop folk scene. They soon had a chance to further spread Irish culture when they launched their own CBC-produced TV show, The Irish Rovers Show. Singles like "The Unicorn," "Wasn't That a Party," and "Drunken Sailor" have helped rejuvenate the popularity of Irish music in North America. Throughout the decades the group has released dozens of albums, including 2016's 50th Anniversary, LIVE on St. Patrick's Day and 2017's The Unicorn, The Continuing Story.
