About Taylor Bennett
Taylor Bennett is an American hip hop artist who was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 19, 1996. Taylor is the younger brother of Chance the Rapper. Taylor built his own fan base, though, and styled his own brand of hip hop. Taylor’s music revolves around themes of family, friendship and the struggles young people face growing up. He said he prefers to write music about real life.
Early Life and Career
Bennett says he was influenced by music from Nas, Kanye West, and Twista. Bennett has also said he was influenced by Michael Jackson, citing Jackson’s ability to leave room for the listener’s imagination. Bennett’s music became popular very quickly. Bennett gained his own following and sold out local venues in Chicago early on in his career. Bennett and Chance collaborated on the single "Broad Shoulders," a song about growing older. Bennett grew up in the West Chatham neighborhood of Chicago and became interested in music at age nine, as he listened to Twista song. He began dabbling in spoken word and poetry and decided to become a rapper at age 12—when he started writing about life on Chicago’s South Side. Bennett released his first mixtape, The Taylor Bennett Show, in late 2013, when he was just 13. The next year he released his first EP, called Freshman Year: First Semester. The EP was released as a digital stream. In 2015, he released his debut album, Broad Shoulders. But it was in 2017 when he released his third mixtape, called Restoration of an American Idol, that Bennett found his popularity.
