More recently, Ryan Villopoto won his first championship in his home state of Washington in 2009, propelling him to the top of the sport throughout the years that followed. Furthermore, in 1999, Larry Ward won the championship for the first time in eight years, at the Seattle Mariner's Kingdome stadium days before it was demolished.
