Finding a path from Iowa to stardom
Stone Sour, named after a classic cocktail, got its start in the early 1990s. They recorded demos and worked the local Des Moines scene, but their early progress was interrupted as members Corey Taylor and Jim Root spent time performing with Slipknot. In 2002 they released their debut record, which garnered immediate attention and two Grammy nods. Come What(ever) May was released in 2006, hitting No. 4 on the charts. They became favorites at music festivals, including the Soundwave Festival, Download Festival, and Rock in Rio. Their fourth and fifth albums were twin concept albums that came with a graphic novel. Following these releases Stone Sour won the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best International Band. In 2017 the band released their sixth studio album, Hydrograd, a continuation of the band's famed heavy metal sound.
