A virtuoso in the making

Growing up in Milwaukee and Dallas, young Steve Miller was surrounded by musical greatness. His parents were jazz musicians and good friends of Les Paul and Mary Ford. Paul encouraged Miller's interest in guitar, and T-Bone Walker taught him guitar tricks. Miller started playing in bands in school, but it was when he dropped out of university and moved to Chicago that he fully dedicated his life to music. He played with Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, getting involved in the blues scene in both Chicago and New York City. However it wasn't until 1966, when he moved to San Francisco, that he formed the Steve Miller Band and his career began to grow. The 1970s was an era of enormous success, with songs like "Fly Like an Eagle," "Rock'n Me," and "Take the Money and Run" becoming huge hits. His popularity from the 70s and his stage charisma continued to bring scores of fans out to Steve Miller concerts well into the 1990s. In 2016 Steve Miller was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, establishing his legacy in the music industry.
