A Longstanding Rivalry
The Southwest Classic is the name given to the rivalry between the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M Aggies Football teams. The rivalry dates to 1903 when the two teams would play each other in non-conference matchups. After playing against each other for nine seasons, the two would not step onto the same field again until 1927. In 1934 the two teams began playing annually up until 1991 when the Razorbacks left the Southwestern Conference. The two teams came back together in 2009 and dubbed their meeting as the Southwest Classic for the first time. They signed a deal in which they agreed to play the game at the neutral location of AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, also the home the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL. In 2012 the Aggies joined the Southeastern Conference, making the game a conference matchup between the two teams. Although the Razorbacks hold the overall winning record for the matchups, the Aggies have been undefeated since they entered the same conference as the Razorbacks.
