Slave Play was actually written by Jeremy O. Harris during his first year while he was attending drama school at Yale. The play first made its debut off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop back in 2018. At the time, the play was directed by Robert O’Hara. The play received fantastic reviews, prompting it to shift to Broadway. It opened at the John Golden Theatre back in October of 2019. That year, the play was nominated for the Best Play at the Lucille Lortel Awards. The play was nominated for a variety of other awards as well.
