From classical composition to indie pop
San Fermin's indie rock status had an unlikely beginning. While at Yale studying composition, Ellis Ludwig-Leone worked with composer Nico Muhly, refining his classical music skills. However, at the end of his degree, Ludwig-Leone found himself toying with pop music. With new inspiration, he began working on San Fermin, pulling in over twenty other musicians to breathe life into his vision. Performing the music live as an eight-piece band brings another dynamic angle to the entrancing and stirring chamber pop music. NPR, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, and other publications have all praised the indie darling for daring embellishments and soulful vocals.
