About Rush

Progressive rock band Rush assembled in the Willowdale neighborhood of Toronto, Canada, in August 1968. Members included Alex Lifeson, John Rutsey and Jeff Jones. The lineup changed before the band reached the big time, however, with both Jones and Rutsey departing the band in 1974. They were placed by Geddy Lee and Neil Peart, respectively. Rush's music has been experimental and progressive from the outset: Philosophical and mythological lyrics are juxtaposed against vibrant rocks notes and groundbreaking musical structures. Given the originality of their work, Rush struggled to achieve mainstream fame at the beginning of their career.

The band's debut album, Rush, was released in 1974, but didn't achieve widespread recognition outside of Canada until a Cleveland radio station played one of the album's tracks - "Working Man." The song was a hit that attracted the attention of label Mercury Records, who signed the band, elevating sales and bringing the band into the U.S. mainstream. Rush amassed a solid fan base and many became desperate to get their hands on cheap Rush tickets. The band relocated to the U.K. in the late 1970's and their music carried a more progressive tone. They released two albums while in Britain: Farewell to Kings in 1977 and Hemispheres in 1978.

Rush achieved further recognition after the release of 2112, a futuristic concept album, which reached platinum status in their native Canada. They built on the success of the album with an extended tour throughout the U.S. and Canada. The shows proved to be a huge hit and cheap tickets became hard to come by. The band continued to ride a tidal wave of success throughout the early 1980s, with the release of a number of hit albums before the year 1985, including Moving Pictures and Power Windows. The period also witnessed the band experiment with different musical genres and forms, including funk, ska and reggae. The triumph of the 1980s continued with the release of the album Presto in 1989. The album received critical praise and the music was notable for its shift back to a more traditional use of guitar. Rush took an extended hiatus starting in 1997, and shortly after, Peart suffered the deaths of his daughter and wife within the space of a year.

The band returned in 2002 with the release of the album Vapor Trails, which was notable for its lack of synthesizers and keyboards - something which hadn't been seen since the 1970s. The album was a hit and Rush marked their 30th anniversary with the release of an extended playlist called "Feedback." It was released in June 2004 and included covers of songs by some of the band's favorite artists. A number of other albums followed, including 2007's Snakes & Arrows and 2012's Clockwork Angels. With a number of future shows planned and further albums in the offing, it's clear that Rush won't be slowing down anytime soon. Fans should act fast and order Rush tickets today!
