Punks with a Political Purpose

Rise Against rose from the ashes of Chicago punk band 88 Fingers Louie, to which Joe Principe and Dan Wleklinski belonged. After 88 Fingers Louie split up, the two went on to found Transistor Revolt, which evolved into Rise Against when the band was offered a record contract by Fat Wreck Chords. Their debut album, The Unraveling, was released in 2001. The Unraveling and its follow-up album, Revolutions per Minute, drew the attention of critics for its vivid lyrics and dynamic use of hardcore punk and melodic hardcore elements. In 2006 The Sufferer & the Witness broached the top ten on the Billboard 200 chart, and soon Rise Against became a festival favorite at events like the Download Festival and the KROQ Weenie Roast. Endgame was a platform for some of their most critical commentary, with lyrics focused on everything from Hurricane Katrina to homophobia.
