The Beginning
Pink Floyd began in 1963 when two of its members, Roger Waters and Nick Mason, met in school while studying architecture. Over the years they had different members come in and out of the band while they solidified their image and sound. By 1967 they grew a larger fanbase and began to attract attention from those in the music industry. Pink Floyd signed with EMI and began recording music under their release. The band’s first album released under EMI called The Piper at the Gates of Dawn spent 14 weeks on the U.K. charts at number six. Although the band seemed to be successful on the outside, behind the scenes showed trouble with their guitarist Syd Barrett. Even though he was considered a creative genius and the power behind writing most of their songs, the difficult decision came to part with Barrett. Nonetheless the band continued to pursue with the replacement of David Gilmour.
Recognized Success
The band has had lots of shifts throughout their career, but still has produced incredible music with an ever-growing fanbase. Their success has been proven in many of the awards they earned such as being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the UK Music Hall of Fame, and the Hit Parade Hall of Fame. Part of what contributed to their success was the relatable yet unique themes they portrayed through their music. Such themes included absence, exploitation, oppression, and war. Their music has reached millions, contributing to them being considered one of the most influential rock bands of all time. What are you waiting for?
