Pinegrove's origin story starts in Montclair, New Jersey. The founding members met each other through "Terry's Serendipity Café," a music show geared towards students. After finding a sense of musical kinship, the band started in earnest. Pinegrove worked the local student circuit and released its debut EP in 2010. The band continued to release their music independently until they signed with Run for Cover in 2015. The following year they released Cardinal, bringing about new success for the indie rock band. Pinegrove skips all over the indie genre, melding influences from roots rock and jazz to folk and math-rock.
