Music City Bowl History
From 2014 through 2019, the Music City Bowl had conference tie-ins with the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, and Southeastern Conference. From 2020 until 2025, the bowl will feature tie-ins with the BIg Ten and SEC. The first Music City Bowl was played at Vanderbilt Stadium. In 1999 the game was relocated to Nissan Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans.
The Music City Bowl has seen its fair share of upsets. In 2006, 10-point underdog Kentucky defeated Clemson 28-20. Other upsets include Minnesota defeating Arkansas in 2002. The Kentucky Wildcats have the most appearances of all football programs with 5, but have only won the game twice. Behind them are the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Tennessee Volunteers each appearing three times. Minnesota has won it twice while the Vols have only won once.
