Crafting music on his own terms
Growing up outside Detroit, Mike Posner was exposed to some of the greatest hip hop and R&B legends at a young age, influencing his own musical development. He struck out on his career as a record producer working with Big Sean. Posner released his debut mixtape in an unusual way, through the educational platform iTunes U, where it quickly climbed to No. 1. In 2010 his first full-length album came out, featuring hit singles "Cooler Than Me" and "Please Don't Go." The instant success – after years of dedicated hard work – proved to be a tough transition for Posner, who retreated from recording and touring to spend some time alone in Utah. But then in 2015 he uploaded "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" online, a single that became a radio smash hit when it was remixed by the Norwegian team SeeB. The next year he unleashed his sophomore album, At Night, Alone., followed by a book of poetry and a collaboration with Blackbear as the duo Mansionz.
