Growing up on Long Island, Michael Carbonaro's childhood hobby of doing magic soon became a professional passion. Even when he was still a student, his family would help him set up shows and prepare tricks, and his gigs would put money in his college fund to study at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. His big break came in 2003 when he was given a regular segment on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. His bit, Magic Clerk, involved a hidden camera and tricks performed on unsuspecting convenience store customers, making the mundane magical. Part of Carbonaro's charm is the good humor with which he performs his tricks – he's never out to be malicious to the so-called victims of his tricks. Instead, he focuses on play and fun. He has also worked as an actor in TV and film, earning spots on 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy, and Another Gay Movie. In 2014 he made the leap to his own show.
