Started in Calgary, the band got its name after Paul Dean saw it in a dream. Loverboy debuted as an opening act for Kiss, but despite the opportunity they found it difficult to find a label. Eventually they signed with Columbia Records of Canada, releasing their debut album in 1980. The success of Loverboy in Canada opened up the US market to them. Soon they were touring with ZZ Top, Kansas, Journey, and Def Leppard. The following year Loverboy raked in six Juno Awards, the most ever earned by one band in a single year. Fans were devastated when Loverboy broke up in 1988, worried it was the end of one of Canada's biggest rock bands. However, Loverboy reunited for a charity concert in 1991, soon returning to touring and recording new music. In 2009 they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
