Franchise History
Founded as part of the 1969 MLB Expansion, the Kansas City Royals entered the league alongside the Seattle Pilots who are now the present-day Milwaukee Brewers. Unlike most expansion teams, the Royals understood the importance of valuable trades as well as a strong farm system. As a result of this understanding, they were able to produce some star players who helped the team gain their first winning season in 1971. In 1975 after a change in managerial staff, the Royals were able to secure three consecutive division championships, although none of them lead to pennants as they were defeated by the New York Yankees all three years. The Royals saw their first World Series appearance in 1980, only to be defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies in game six. This game holds special significance around the league as it still to this day holds the record for the most television viewers for a World Series game. It was not until 1985 that the Royals would win their first World Series title. Down in the series against the St. Louis Cardinals, they managed to hold them off winning three games in a row to secure their first title in franchise history. From 1985 to 2015 the team would have several highs and lows, coming away with only two pennants in 2014 and 2015. The team took a positive turn when they landed the wild card spot in the playoffs and went on to defeat the New York Mets to win their second World Series title. Today the Royals are looking to add a third title to their collection, and with a young, vibrant team it will not be long before they are holding up another Commissioner’s Trophy!
Kauffman Stadium
Formerly known as the Royals Stadium, Kauffman Stadium, nicknamed "the K," has been home to the Royals since 1973. The massive ballpark is often considered one of the most beautiful in the major leagues. With more than 40,000 seats, it's easy to snag cheap tickets to catch the Royals in action. Together with Arrowhead Stadium, home of the National Football League's Kansas City Chiefs, the stadium makes up the Truman Sports Complex. Since its opening, it has hosted the 1973 and 2012 All-Star games, several playoff games, three no-hitters and 11 World Series games, including one in 2014.
In 2006 Kauffman Stadium underwent an extensive renovation that was focused on improving the fan experience. Along with creating a wider concourse throughout the stadium, they also added a kid’s area, restaurants, high definition scoreboards, and new concession stands. Located in right field there is a sports bar and grill where fans can go grab a bite to eat while still being able to see all the action. To attract more families, they built a kid’s area that includes a playground, carousel, mini golf, and even a batting cage! Located right outside the outfield, parents can watch the game while their kids are off having fun just in eyeshot from them.
Rivalries
The Royals have battled it out in heated competition with several teams over recent years, such as the San Francisco Giants in the 2014 World Series. They have also gone head to head with the St. Louis Cardinals during intense games since the rivalry started in 1985 when the Royals defeated them in the World Series. Historically the Royals also have a very heated rivalry with the New York Yankees. There was a period where the Yankees were the sole prohibitor of the Royals making it to a World Series. While this has died down in the recent years, a game between the two is still one that you do not want to miss! This heavy competition is what makes fans eager to get their cheap Kansas City Royals tickets.
Don't miss out on a chance to see the Royals work their way to another World Series tournament this year. Don't miss out on any of the action! Check out the Kansas City Royals 2024 schedule here at CheapTickets.
