Joining the pantheon of rock stars
Anthony Joseph Pereira picked up the guitar as a child, his love of performing stoked by the The Beatles' charismatic performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. As a young musician he banded together with Tom Hamilton in The Jam Band, a group that grew into Aerosmith. His close relationship with Steven Tyler produced some of the most memorable rock songs of all time, but the strain of fame on the band caused disagreements and controversy. Tensions reached a fever pitch while the band was on a world tour in 1979, and Joe Perry quit. The following year he released Let the Music Do the Talking as the Joe Perry Project. But the musical kinship of Aerosmith was so strong, the band was soon back together. They climbed right back to the top of the charts with singles like "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." In 2001 Aerosmith was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Perry released his debut solo album in 2005, followed by another Joe Perry Project four years later. In 2015 Joe Perry joined forces with Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp to create Hollywood Vampires, a supergroup that celebrates the dark glam of rock and roll.
