Joanna Jedrzejczyk was born in Olsztyn, Poland on August 18, 1987. When she was sixteen years old she discovered Muay Thai, a combat sport that originates in Thailand. For the next ten years she would compete in both Muay Thai and Kickboxing around the world, winning several World Medals along the way. In May of 2012 Joanna made her debut in MMA at Fight Night Diva SPA. She faced off against Sylwia Juskiewicz and won via a unanimous decision. After two years of fighting professionally in the MMA, Joanna signed a deal with the UFC in the summer of 2014. Her debut fight was against Juliana Lima, one that she won via unanimous decision. In early 2015 she competed in UFC 185 for the UFC Strawweight Championship against Carla Esparza. Winning in a technical knockout, Joanna became the first Polish and European female to win the title. Joanna would go on to defend her title for five consecutive fights. In November of 2017 she would fight against Rose Namajunas in Madison Square Garden, the fight in which she not only lost her title, but it was also her first professional MMA loss.
