History of the Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a relatively new NFL team, getting their start in 1995. The team entered the league as part of an expansion project alongside the Carolina Panthers. Despite what seemed like a lack luster team in the beginning, the Jaguars ended their second season in 1996 with a winning record. They made it all the way to the conference championship game where they would be eliminated by the eventual Super Bowl Champion the Green Bay Packers. From that point on up until the end of the 1999 season, the Jaguars were one of the top teams in the league. However, they were never able to convert when they got to the playoffs. In 2005 the Jaguars qualified for the playoffs for the first time since their disappointing loss in 1999, they were eventually eliminated by the New England Patriots in the wild card round. The Jaguars would not make another playoff appearance until 2007 when they reached the divisional championship round, but ultimately losing once again to the Patriots. For the next ten seasons the Jaguars continued to struggle on the field, resulting in various coaching and player changes. Today the Jaguars are working on rebuilding their team to give them a fighting chance at winning. After the end of the 2019 season the Jaguars signed famed quarterback Nick Foles to their team, bringing a whole new level of excitement for their fans.
In total they've made seven playoff appearances and won three AFC division championships. They have yet to make the Super Bowl, but loyal Jacksonville Jaguars are patiently optimistic. Though the Jacksonville Jaguars have struggled in recent years, it wasn't too long ago that they were climbing up the ladder of success. For fans, those golden years weren't that long ago. The fans have faith that the Jacksonville Jaguars will turn things around and go back to their hey-days of the 1990s and early 2000s. The Jacksonville Jaguars mascot is Jaxson de Ville — a mischievous jaguar that's caused changes in the NFL mascot rules to keep him contained.
The Jacksonville Jaguars Stadium
Located on the northern bank of the St. Johns River, TIAA Bank Field has been the host for all Jaguars home games since their inaugural season in 1995. Historically the stadium has gone by several names including Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, Alltel Stadium, and EverBank Field. Among hosting all Jaguars home games, the stadium has also hosted the Super Bowl, playoff games, the Gator Bowl, as well as several big-name concerts. The stadium features several amenities for fans during the games including, interactive activities on the concourse, two pools, HD video boards, and city specific dining options. The stadium seats just under 70,000 occupants.
The Biggest Rivals of the Jacksonville Jaguars
In their short time in the league, the Jaguars have quite the fair share of rivalries. Naturally they are rivals with their fellow Floridan teams the Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They also have three rivals within their division that provide a great deal of entertainment every time they play. The Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans all battle it out with the Jaguars in the AFC. Two other less known rivalries are with the Carolina Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, based on historical meetings between the two. No matter who the rival is, watching them face off with the Jaguars in person is going to be one of the most exciting games that you can attend!
