Trailblazers of new jack swing
Founded in Harlem in the late 1980s, Guy released their debut album in 1988. Songs like "Groove Me," "Teddy's Jam," and "Spend the Night" slingshot them to R&B fame and made Guy a double platinum success. The group also worked in support of other artists, writing "My Fantasy" for Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing and penning "My Prerogative" with Bobby Brown. In 1990 Guy released The Future, another successful album, but broke up shortly after. However, the musicians have continued to work together over the years, reuniting for special singles and performances. In 2000 the group released Guy III, which included the hit "Dancin,'" and in 2009 they performed "I Like" at the BET Awards.
