The March up the College Ranks
The George Mason Patriots program has produced hundreds of stunning young athletes, though the star of the school is still the basketball team. The team made its debut in the NCAA Tournament in 1989, becoming a repeat contender. In 2006 the Patriots fought their way to the Final Four. George Mason has also appeared several times in the NIT, a show of strength in the early 2000s. The men's soccer team has also carved out a name for itself on the field with four regular season championships. The women's basketball team has recently strengthened its position on the court. The women Patriots made their first foray in the NIT in 2001. In 2018 they defeated Stephen F. Austin to move ahead to Round two, where they fell to the ultimate tournament runner-up, Virginia Tech.
